I know as soon as we hit December, everyone's blog will suddenly have titles referring to "seeing the old year out and a new one in", so I thought I'd get there first and pretend to be original.
Apart from that, I feel that my year tends to come to a close somewhat quicker than many other people's, for three reasons: (1) Working in education means holidays begin sooner, and (2) Spending Christmas abroad means you have to celebrate your first Christmas here before you leave and (3 is obviously a combination of the first two, because) Since your hols start sooner, you leave the country sooner, therefore have "First Christmas" sooner and the year ends sooner - or at least it seems to.
I've always thought the lack of seasons has a lot to do with time flying faster than you can keep up with, because you have no weather to use as reference markers. In England we always knew when something had happened, because we remembered we were sitting inside/outside the pub, we were wearing a strappy top/winter woolies etc, but here this is not something we can rely on.
But I feel that this year has passed at an even higher speed than usual for me, and I suppose anyone that's spoken to me recently could have a wild guess why - so many things have happened this year, I can barely keep track! So as my first blog entry, I thought I'd give you all a summary of my year, so you know where I'm at in my life at the mo:
January: Argentina & Brasil (wow miaow!)
February: New position at work (how exciting!)
April: New position at work (yes, again!)
June: Miami, (God, I'm just soooo in with the in crowd!)
June: England and Scotland (in summer, for once! Gorgeous!)
July: Got married (it was about time, really!)
July: Kenya (safari - need I say more? Yes, I need - I fed a giraffe!)
October: Wisdom teeth out (ow! I was so wise 'til they yanked it out of me!)
November: Started teaching at a volunteer programme (I actually LIKE kids now!)
December: ........................Going to England! Jen's getting married!
So, judging by the fact that every comment there has an exclamation mark, perhaps this entry's title is all wrong, because as you can see, it hasn't actually been much of a spiral at all, but rather more of a rollercoaster that seems it still might have a couple of loop-the-loops to go... so hold on as I squeal into 2007!
